The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nuno Luz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bernardo Morais, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. SC Portomar's Hugo Ferro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Manuel Trindade in the 8th minute of play. Basílio Gomes hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Diamantino Nogueira could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Nuno Luz made a huge save. Nuno Luz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bernardo Morais, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Fernando Paredes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hugo Ferro was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. In the 24th minute Fernando Paredes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugo Ferro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of SC Portomar booed when Sabadao was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacinto Assunção didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Diamantino Nogueira got free with Nuno Luz in the 28th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 30th match minute, SC Portomar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Diamantino Nogueira to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, SC Portomar's Pedro Bessa got a free kick in the 31st minute. Daniel Leal hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. In the 34th minute, Abel Sousa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bernardo Morais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nuno Luz having to interfere. Manuel Trindade received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Hugo Ferro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 47th minute, Fernando Paredes ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hugo Ferro was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bernardo Morais stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Diamantino Nogueira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nuno Luz was relentless in the 55th minute of the game. Diamantino Nogueira ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 86 minutes, Diamantino Nogueira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Portomar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Diamantino Nogueira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pedro Bessa charged in rather forcefully in the 88th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pedro Bessa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 88th match minute, SC Portomar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Bessa to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bernardo Morais in the 91st minute of play forced Sabadao's goalkeeper Nuno Luz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Manuel Trindade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Manuel Trindade recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Sabadao supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Sabadao would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
