In the 9th minute Francisco Branco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rafael Morais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 20 minutes, Nuno Abreu managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vilarinha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nuno Abreu was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Francisco Branco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rafael Morais having to interfere. In the 38th minute, Francisco Branco left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Vilarinha fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After having played for 42 minutes, Vítor Guerreiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vilarinha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vítor Guerreiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 43 minutes, José Simões mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Giraldos and the Vilarinha players grew even worse after the yellow card. 45 minutes into the match, Raul Barros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rafael Morais. Giraldos's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Raul Barros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Armando Brito stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Vilarinha's Francisco Branco got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Francisco Branco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Giraldos's Rafael Morais proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Giraldos from getting a goal against them. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Raul Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vilarinha's supporters rose to their feet, but Raul Barros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rafael Morais breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 81st minute Francisco Branco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rafael Morais saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armando Brito in the 83rd minute of play forced Vilarinha's goalkeeper Paulo Setúbal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Paulo Ramos fell near the penalty area in the 87th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Giraldos's protests and gave Paulo Ramos a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Giraldos getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Paulo Ramos hit a great ball. With a little luck, Giraldos's Rafael Morais got control of the ball when Raul Barros tried to sneak it across the goal line. Francisco Branco blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rafael Morais having to make a save. The Vilarinha supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Vilarinha would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
