SC Alfaiao's Catarino Henriques played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basílio Setúbal in the 19th minute of play. After 21 played minutes SC Alfaiao got a freekick which was hit by Ricardo Cabral. After recieving a nice pass, Gradiz's Diamantino Rodrigues tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. 23 minutes into the match, Gradiz's Basílio Setúbal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Catarino Henriques narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Basílio Setúbal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joel Paredes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lúcio Correia in the 28th minute. 29 minutes into the match, Gradiz's goalkeeper Joel Paredes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lúcio Correia. With a little luck, Gradiz's Joel Paredes got control of the ball when Lúcio Correia tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience was convinced that Eusébio Garcia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joel Paredes was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. João Faro charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. SC Alfaiao's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Basílio Setúbal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Catarino Henriques having to interfere. After the first half Gradiz were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eusébio Garcia was the one to do the kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, Basílio Setúbal managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gradiz's supporters crossed their fingers, but Basílio Setúbal was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lúcio Correia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joel Paredes having to interfere. Duarte Moreira's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 59thth minute, Catarino Henriques skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 59th minute, Ricardo Cabral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gradiz's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Diamantino Rodrigues in the 62nd minute.
