After 3 minutes, Ricardo Fernandes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Almargem and the Medronhal FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Almargem's Ricardo Fernandes got a free kick in the 3rd minute. In the 4th minute of the match Rogério Henriques sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jorge Fontes skillfully saved the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, David Melo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Almargem's supporters rose to their feet, but David Melo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Afonso Veiga breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Filipe Brás struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Jorge Fontes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Medronhal FC. Bento Moutinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Jorge Fontes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 20th minute Filipe Brás shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorge Fontes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 23 minutes into the match, Fábio Branco notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Medronhal FC's Afonso Veiga. Afonso Veiga was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Bento Moutinho came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Medronhal FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bento Moutinho couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in Medronhal FC's zone, David Melo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonso Veiga came out of the goal and David Melo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fábio Branco struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Afonso Veiga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Almargem. 34 minutes into the match, Filipe Brás notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Almargem's Jorge Fontes. Jorge Fontes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 40 minutes, Gabriel Esteves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Almargem's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gabriel Esteves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Almargem's Afonso Veiga threw himself towards the right post 41 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from David Melo, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 47th match minute, Medronhal FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bento Moutinho to maneuver through the defense. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bento Moutinho was the one to do the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bento Moutinho in the 53rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jorge Fontes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Fernando Fontes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Fontes having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Almargem's zone, Bento Moutinho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorge Fontes came out of the goal and Bento Moutinho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Filipe Bráss short, quick shot in the 63rdth minute got Jorge Fontes to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 64 minutes of play Almargem's Ricardo Fernandes was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Ricardo Fernandes hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. In the 68th minute, Filipe Brás got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jorge Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bento Moutinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 74th minute, Gabriel Esteves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Filipe Brás sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 79 minutes, Filipe Brás mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Medronhal FC and the Almargem players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bento Moutinho in the 83rd minute of play forced Almargem's goalkeeper Jorge Fontes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Bento Moutinho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jorge Fontes was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. In the 87th match minute, Almargem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gabriel Esteves to maneuver through the defense. Almargem's Jorge Fontes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save Almargem from getting a goal against them. 92 minutes into the match, Bento Moutinho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jorge Fontes. Almargem's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bento Moutinho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. The Medronhal FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Medronhal FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
