The Cruzes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Armando Viegas should have stopped the shot. In the 15th minute, Xavier Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Viriato Assunção recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Viriato Assunção fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jorge Aleixo having to interfere. An unexpected shot in the 32nd minute by Paulo Martins got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paulo Martins got free with Jorge Aleixo in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Cruzes's zone, Xavier Ramos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Armando Viegas came out of the goal and Xavier Ramos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Paulo Martins succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 44th playminute. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Humberto Barbosa made the kick off in the second half. With an all-out effort, Carvalheiro's Armando Viegas threw himself towards the right post 64 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Humberto Barbosa, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Cruzes's Armando Viegas proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Cruzes from getting a goal against them.
