The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Olawale Kallamu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 17thth minute tested the skills of Lokon Gwalabe when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 18 minutes into the match, Mullen's goalkeeper Lokon Gwalabe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Olawale Kallamu. Olawale Kallamu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Lokon Gwalabe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 21st minute Iweobiegbunam Moses shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lokon Gwalabe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lokon Gwalabe was a little too slow when Iweobiegbunam Moses got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 24th minute. The score was now 1-0. After a rather tough play, Mullen's Chudi Owotoki got a free kick in the 28th minute. Iweobiegbunam Moses got in the 31st a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Lokon Gwalabe handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Haruna Adedina during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Haruna Adedina kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Haruna Adedina to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Mullen's zone, Bello Ogunmekan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lokon Gwalabe came out of the goal and Bello Ogunmekan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Haruna Adedina received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Hanyechukwu Onyeneke tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Haruna Adedina struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Hanyechukwu Onyeneke didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mullen. The supporters of Bristol St George AFC booed when Mullen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Choice Olukoju didn't get a good kick on the ball. Haruna Adedina fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hanyechukwu Onyeneke having to interfere. When Haruna Adedina came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Mullen fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Haruna Adedina couldn't finish the play. Olawale Kallamu might have been able to make a better finish in the 88th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Lokon Gwalabe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Olawale Kallamu ran back to his position shaking his head. Chimaraoke Etim could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Hanyechukwu Onyeneke made a huge save. In the 94th match minute, Mullen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Babale Oyoyo to maneuver through the defense.
