Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Wole Ogor in the 20th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Afolabi Akinlabi prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Aila Ahangba sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Aila Ahangba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

In the 54th minute Wole Ogor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Afolabi Akinlabi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wole Ogor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afolabi Akinlabi having to interfere. Afolabi Akinlabi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kunle Adebakin, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. If Wole Ogor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Withernsea's Amaluchukwu Aborisade played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aila Ahangba in the 65th minute of play. 66 minutes into the match, Kunle Adebakin notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of Gillingham's Afolabi Akinlabi. Afolabi Akinlabi was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Amaluchukwu Aborisade showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aila Ahangba, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Amaluchukwu Aborisade took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aila Ahangba, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 92nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Withernsea's goalkeeper Amaluchukwu Aborisade, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gillingham's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
