Gerry Moody showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bruce Strongman , who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. A collision led to Great Ayton` FC getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Bernard Robson hit a great ball. In the 9th minute of the match Wes Attwood shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gerry Moody showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Bruce Strongman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kevin Bates showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stephen Burley , who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Kevin Bates made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stephen Burley in the 27th minute of play. Jason Shakespeare 's late challenge caught a Great Ayton` FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jason Shakespeare helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th match minute, Hanworth FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jason Shakespeare to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fred Dewhirst in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Kevin Bates saved Hanworth FC from getting behind. With a little luck, Great Ayton` FC's Gerry Moody got control of the ball when Benji Dixon tried to sneak it across the goal line. Aaron Carroll hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. After 41 played minutes Great Ayton` FC got a freekick which was hit by Bernard Robson . After some careless play in the Hanworth FC defense, Bernard Robson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Kevin Bates . The Hanworth FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kevin Bates should have stopped the shot. The Hanworth FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Great Ayton` FC were winning 0-1.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Benji Dixon to strike the kick off in the second half. The crowd rose to their feet as Great Ayton` FC's Stephen Burley slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Kevin Bates . That made the score 0-2 after 52 minutes of play. After a rather tough play, Hanworth FC's Andrew Bateman got a free kick in the 62nd minute. In the 69th minute, Benji Dixon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Stephen Burley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Benji Dixon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hanworth FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Benji Dixon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gerry Moody breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jason Shakespeare recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Great Ayton` FC's zone, Benji Dixon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gerry Moody came out of the goal and Benji Dixon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Hanworth FC's Kevin Bates got control of the ball when Fred Dewhirst tried to sneak it across the goal line. 83 minutes into the match, Hanworth FC's goalkeeper Kevin Bates had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Fred Dewhirst . 87 minutes into the game, Hanworth FC's Benji Dixon nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gerry Moody made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stephen Burley in the 91st minute of play forced Hanworth FC's goalkeeper Kevin Bates to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 95th minute, Fred Dewhirst got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Great Ayton` FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
