Bury's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gerrards Cross the free kick. After 8 played minutes Bury got a freekick which was hit by Len Bzeu. Alastair Rockett who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 13thth minute tested the skills of Rodd Timiney when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tosh Giugno in the 16th minute of play forced Bury's goalkeeper Rodd Timiney to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Franz Boyce in the 19th minute of play forced Gerrards Cross's goalkeeper Pat Kyle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Gerrards Cross getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Damion Robinson hit a great ball. Marlon Rusby took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 22nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Pat Kyle. Gerrards Cross's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Alastair Rockett struck a weak shot in the 24th minute. Rodd Timiney didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Gerrards Cross. Alastair Rockett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Rodd Timiney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee felt a red card was in order, 41 minutes into the game, when Luke Goodwin put in a rough tackle. In the 44th minute there was a penalty for Bury. Marlon Rusby stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Pat Kyle. 0-1. If Franz Boyce had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 49th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Bury were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Gerrards Cross's Alastair Rockett in the 58th minute got a chance for a shot 58th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Bury's goalie prevented a goal. Franz Boyce blasted a shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pat Kyle having to make a save. 62 minutes into the match, Alastair Rockett had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rodd Timiney. Bury's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alastair Rockett was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Eddy Lucas struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Pat Kyle didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bury. The audience thought a goal was coming when Franz Boyce got free with Pat Kyle in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rodd Timiney showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alastair Rockett in the 75th minute of the match. If Alastair Rockett had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pat Kyle made an important save on a dangerous shot by Franz Boyce in the 83rd minute. Franz Boyce could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Pat Kyle made a huge save. Harvey Hall's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Pat Kyle read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. In the 94th minute, Bury's Eddy Lucas dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. With a little luck, Gerrards Cross's Pat Kyle got control of the ball when Franz Boyce tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Bury players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
