Sammy Neville's late challenge caught a Stockton-on-Tees's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sammy Neville helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Handsworth getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Sammy Neville hit a great ball. If Barrie Ashworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Barrie Ashworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Danny Lilley came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Stockton-on-Tees fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Danny Lilley couldn't finish the play. Stockton-on-Tees's Michael Edison played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stan Gardner in the 27th minute of play. After having played for 28 minutes, Barrie Ashworth managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Handsworth's supporters crossed their fingers, but Barrie Ashworth was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Michael Edison showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stan Gardner, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Danny Lilley in the 31st minute of play forced Handsworth's goalkeeper Fraser Beckett to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Handsworth's Stan Gardner got a free kick in the 34th minute. Stan Gardner received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Michael Edison tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Barrie Ashworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 44th match minute, Stockton-on-Tees was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ash Wiseman to maneuver through the defense.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Stan Gardner to strike the kick off in the second half. Michael Edison took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stan Gardner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ethan Saville fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Handsworth's protests and gave Ethan Saville a yellow card for diving instead. 58 minutes into the game, one of Handsworth:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. After 60 minutes Handsworth's goalkeeper Fraser Beckett managed, with a little bit of luck, save Den Branson's penalty, on his right side after a tricky shot. In the 60th minute, Stockton-on-Tees's Den Branson dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. When Barrie Ashworth came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Handsworth fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barrie Ashworth couldn't finish the play. In the 76th match minute, Stockton-on-Tees was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Den Branson to maneuver through the defense. In the 83rdth minute of the game Stan Gardner who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Stockton-on-Tees's Michael Edison was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Stan Gardner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Michael Edison made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Barrie Ashworth in the 89th minute of play. After having played for 98 minutes, Barrie Ashworth managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Handsworth's supporters crossed their fingers, but Barrie Ashworth was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the final whistle went the supporters of Stockton-on-Tees were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Handsworth side.
