With an all-out effort, Ashington's Jay Lennon threw himself towards the right post 3 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Johnnie Snowden, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johnnie Snowden in the 5th minute of play forced Chapel en le frith's goalkeeper Jay Lennon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jay Lennon stood somewhat misplaced when Johnnie Snowden came free in front of goal and shot 1-0 to the left of him in the 6 minute. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ashington fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 10th minute. Penalty! An unexpectedly hard shot by Johnnie Snowden in the 17th minute of play forced Chapel en le frith's goalkeeper Jay Lennon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 23rdth minute of the game Johnnie Snowden who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chapel en le frith's Jay Lennon was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Syd Beard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Jay Lennon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vincent Key hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. If Victor Cheesman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ashley Coogan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Alan Archer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 43 minutes into the match, Ashington's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Fry came free, but Alan Archer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ashley Coogan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ashley Coogan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Ashley Coogan dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Alan Archer, 1-2. Syd Beard might have been able to make a better finish in the 58th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jay Lennon. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Syd Beard ran back to his position shaking his head. Verne Atherton's late challenge caught a Ashington's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Verne Atherton helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 60th minute of the game. One of Chapel en le frith:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ashington:s goal. If Syd Beard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Syd Beard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jay Lennon having to interfere. Syd Beard struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Jay Lennon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ashington. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vincent Key during the 87th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Chapel en le frith's Vincent Key got a free kick in the 87th minute. 90 minutes into the game, Ashington's Johnnie Snowden nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jay Lennon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. After a rather tough play, Chapel en le frith's Victor Cheesman got a free kick in the 94th minute. Vincent Key hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. Ashington were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
