After a defensive mix-up in Smallfield's zone, Greg Dobson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gordon Fearns came out of the goal and Greg Dobson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee felt a red card was in order, 31 minutes into the game, when Olly Myers put in a rough tackle. Greg Dobson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Fearns having to interfere. After 36 played minutes Smallfield got a freekick which was hit by Richie Holland. Tyrone Wells received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Richie Holland charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Richie Holland the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Gordon Fearns made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Greg Dobson in the 59th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gordon Fearns prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gerry Cusack was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 59th minute. Smallfield's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Greg Dobson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Fearns having to interfere. Tony McKeown made a fantastic save in the 70th minute, when Gerry Cusack sent off a good shot on target. If Gerry Cusack had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Smallfield getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Will Platt hit a great ball.
