The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 6th minute, Sheffield's Eric Hudson ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Theo Myers. Theo Myers yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Nottingham Rovers reached it. Theo Myers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denny Farmer, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Stefan Campbell during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The attack was good, but when Denny Farmer in the 20th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. 24 minutes into the game, Sheffield's Denny Farmer nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Theo Myers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Nottingham Rovers's Theo Myers proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save Nottingham Rovers from getting a goal against them. Darryl Darko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Nottingham Rovers getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Stefan Campbell hit a great ball. If Darryl Darko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Denny Farmer received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Theo Myers came out and tried to block the shot, but Denny Farmer slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 47th minute.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Denny Farmer was the one to do the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Denny Farmer in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Theo Myers saved Nottingham Rovers from getting behind. 55 minutes into the game, Steven Tyson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nottingham Rovers's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sheffield the free kick. In the 55th minute, Steven Tyson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Darko recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Denny Farmer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Theo Myers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Darryl Darko came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Sheffield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Darryl Darko couldn't finish the play. In the 71st minute, Denny Farmer got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 71st match minute, Sheffield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eric Hudson to maneuver through the defense. Denny Farmer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Theo Myers tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Denny Farmer struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Theo Myers didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sheffield. After having played for 86 minutes, Victor Markinson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Nottingham Rovers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Victor Markinson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nottingham Rovers's Theo Myers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Denny Farmer in the 88th minute of play. Denny Farmer scored 4-0 in the 94th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Theo Myers, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
