Ray Linford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ralf Howson having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Hoylake United's zone, Wayne Buckler stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ralf Howson came out of the goal and Wayne Buckler tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jo Peakman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Kingswear United's Wayne Buckler in the 14th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Ralf Howson was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Hoylake United through an amazing save. Ray Linford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Ralf Howson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ralf Howson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wayne Buckler, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. When Ray Linford, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 24 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Ralf Howson was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. In the 27th match minute, Hoylake United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jo Peakman to maneuver through the defense. Robbie Commons sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Jay Welsh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hoylake United's supporters rose to their feet, but Jay Welsh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ashley Lydiate breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 43rd minute, Ivor Baird hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Jay Welsh came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Hoylake United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jay Welsh couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Wayne Buckler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kingswear United's supporters rose to their feet, but Wayne Buckler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ralf Howson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Robbie Commons was the one to do the kick off. Robbie Commons might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ashley Lydiate. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Robbie Commons ran back to his position shaking his head. 53 minutes into the game, Jay Welsh cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Ashley Lydiate was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jay Welsh in the 53rd minute of play forced Kingswear United's goalkeeper Ashley Lydiate to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Ray Linford came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Kingswear United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ray Linford couldn't finish the play. Ashley Lydiate was a little too slow when Robbie Commons got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 63rd minute. The score was now 0-2. 67 minutes into the match, Robbie Commons dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ashley Lydiate, 0-3. After 72 played minutes Kingswear United got a freekick which was hit by Jamal Spacey. After some careless play in the Kingswear United defense, Jay Welsh kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ashley Lydiate. The Kingswear United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ashley Lydiate should have stopped the shot. Ray Linford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Ralf Howson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 81 minutes, Robbie Commons managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hoylake United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robbie Commons was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 88 minutes into the match, Kingswear United's goal looked a bit too open when Robbie Commons came free, but Ashley Lydiate reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ashley Lydiate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robbie Commons, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After having played for 92 minutes, Jay Welsh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hoylake United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jay Welsh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the final whistle sounded Hoylake United left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Kingswear United.
