In the 5th minute, Jack Paget fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Down Grange Albion's Jasper Hird got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daventry AFC's Pete Haines got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 10 minutes into the game, Jeff Hardwick was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Down Grange Albion's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Daventry AFC the free kick. After 10 played minutes Down Grange Albion got a freekick which was hit by Jeff Hardwick. After 11 minutes, Pete Haines made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Down Grange Albion's Don Stead tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Down Grange Albion's Jack Paget got a free kick in the 16th minute. Jasper Hird's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lloyd Wells read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pete Haines in the 26th minute of play forced Down Grange Albion's goalkeeper Don Stead to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Thomas Sharples put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Don Stead. Lloyd Wells showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Paget, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Jasper Hird blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lloyd Wells having to make a save. Jack Paget fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lloyd Wells having to interfere. Jerry Dryden's late challenge caught a Daventry AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jerry Dryden helped the player get up and apologised. Jerry Dryden hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Gez Booth took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Don Stead. Down Grange Albion's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Jasper Hird received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Lloyd Wells tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lloyd Wells didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jack Paget went, in the 57th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Jack Paget sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lloyd Wells took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jack Paget, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Jack Paget had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Down Grange Albion's Don Stead played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thomas Sharples in the 87th minute of play. Jack Paget sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Don Stead showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thomas Sharples in the 96th minute of the match. The Down Grange Albion manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Daventry AFC to win.
