Benji Lynam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 4th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lloyd Wells having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Daventry AFC's zone, Giles Woodhead stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lloyd Wells came out of the goal and Giles Woodhead tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 7 minutes, Gez Booth mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Daventry AFC and the West Rainton City players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 8 played minutes Daventry AFC got a freekick which was hit by Gez Booth. With a little luck, Daventry AFC's Lloyd Wells got control of the ball when Benji Lynam tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daventry AFC's Lloyd Wells played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Giles Woodhead in the 12th minute of play. 14 minutes into the match, Daventry AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Giles Woodhead came free, but Lloyd Wells reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Lloyd Wells made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giles Woodhead in the 18th minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, Giles Woodhead dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Lloyd Wells, 1-0. In the 33rd minute, Giles Woodhead fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. A collision led to West Rainton City getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Louis Thorn hit a great ball. Louis Thorn hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Christopher Stevens took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 37th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Victor Owen. West Rainton City's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Giles Woodhead had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 40th minute, Gez Booth hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Giles Woodhead fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored West Rainton City's protests and gave Giles Woodhead a yellow card for diving instead. After 44 played minutes West Rainton City got a freekick which was hit by Giles Woodhead. Lloyd Wells made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giles Woodhead in the 46th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pete Haines stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. When Richie Bakewell came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the Daventry AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Richie Bakewell couldn't finish the play. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind West Rainton City's goalkeeper Victor Owen, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 61 minutes, Rupert Clegg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the West Rainton City and the Daventry AFC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 62nd minute, Christopher Stevens sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and West Rainton City's Victor Owen didn't even have to move. Lloyd Wells took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benji Lynam, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daventry AFC's Lloyd Wells played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Giles Woodhead in the 67th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Giles Woodhead in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lloyd Wells prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 74th match minute, West Rainton City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rupert Clegg to maneuver through the defense. In the 75th minute, Richie Bakewell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lloyd Wells showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benji Lynam, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. After taking down the ball on West Rainton City's corner Brendon Barone fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lloyd Wells quite easily take care of the ball. After a rather tough play, West Rainton City's Lee Washington got a free kick in the 94th minute. Pete Haines struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Victor Owen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Daventry AFC.
