The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Louie Sutherland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Topham having to interfere. If Louie Sutherland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 20th minute Peter Philpott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brendon Topham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Louie Sutherland struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Brendon Topham didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bebington City. After having played for 24 minutes, Louie Sutherland managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bebington City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Louie Sutherland was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vince Fenwick blasted a shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ray Doyle having to make a save. Peter Philpott received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Brendon Topham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Chip Woodcock kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. The supporters of Malmesbury booed when Bebington City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bryan Postolan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bebington City's Donny Blakewell couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Malmesbury.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Peter Philpott was the one to do the kick off. Peter Philpott was extremely unlucky when he, in the 58th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Brendon Topham took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Peter Philpott, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Louie Sutherland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Louie Sutherland got free with Brendon Topham in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Bebington City booed when Malmesbury was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vince Fenwick didn't get a good kick on the ball. Peter Philpott had several of the Malmesbury's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 67 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-1 score and a disappointed Brendon Topham as he didn't even see the shot coming. Malmesbury's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Peter Philpott 70 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Malmesbury's zone, Louie Sutherland stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brendon Topham came out of the goal and Louie Sutherland tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 96 minutes, Peter Philpott managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bebington City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Peter Philpott was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bebington City played a much better game than Malmesbury and deserved their victory. The Malmesbury players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
