The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5th minute, Horwich's Danny Dobson dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Benjamin Hickson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dean Paine, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Horwich's Benjamin Hickson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dean Paine in the 12th minute of play. In the 14th minute Dean Paine shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benjamin Hickson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Weston Super Mare's Jason Millman got a free kick in the 16th minute. 25 minutes into the match, Horwich's goal looked a bit too open when Walter Pennant came free, but Benjamin Hickson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 29 minutes into the match, Gerry Seaman notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Horwich's Benjamin Hickson. Benjamin Hickson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Walter Pennant to make the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Horwich's goal looked a bit too open when Dean Paine came free, but Benjamin Hickson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 54th minute, Gav Sugden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ged Rogers showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damon Button in the 55th minute of the match. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ged Rogers prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Walter Pennant fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benjamin Hickson having to interfere. When Jason Millman came up free with the goalie in the 88th minute, the Weston Super Mare fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jason Millman couldn't finish the play. 89 minutes into the match, Horwich's goal looked a bit too open when Dean Paine came free, but Benjamin Hickson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
