Shaun Helks's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Stefan Gough read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 11th minute of play. In the last second Stefan Gough throw himself and got hold of the ball when Jerry Wright in the 13thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. After some careless play in the Northallerton Town FC defense, Jay Hardcastle kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bruce Currie. The Northallerton Town FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bruce Currie should have stopped the shot. Shaun Helks fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stefan Gough having to interfere. In the 37th minute, Jay Hardcastle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 42 minutes into the match, Petersfield City's Jay Hardcastle sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bruce Currie narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Bruce Currie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Glen Airton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Northallerton Town FC's Bruce Currie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jay Hardcastle in the 44th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jay Hardcastle in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bruce Currie saved Northallerton Town FC from getting behind. If Glen Airton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
The wind increased when Jay Hardcastle made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Northallerton Town FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jay Hardcastle came free, but Bruce Currie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jerry Wright received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Stefan Gough tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Glen Airton came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Petersfield City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Glen Airton couldn't finish the play. If Glen Airton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Northallerton Town FC's Bruce Currie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jay Hardcastle in the 67th minute of play. Jay Hardcastle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bruce Currie having to interfere. In the 73rd minute Jerry Wright shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stefan Gough saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 88th minute the ball was on its way in behind Northallerton Town FC's goalkeeper Bruce Currie, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Bruce Currie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jay Hardcastle, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Petersfield City's Glen Airton got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jay Hardcastle sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
