The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the match, Marlon Oliver had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jack Mabbutt. Kingston United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Marlon Oliver was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a rather tough play, Kingston United's William Nailor got a free kick in the 12th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marlon Oliver in the 27th minute of play forced Kingston United's goalkeeper Jack Mabbutt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ian Elding fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Martin having to interfere. After 40 minutes of play, Kingston United's Ian Elding made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sean Martin was left in no man's land by his defense there! 44 minutes into the match, Redcar City's goal looked a bit too open when Ian Elding came free, but Sean Martin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ashley Leather had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Redcar City's zone, Ian Elding stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sean Martin came out of the goal and Ian Elding tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ian Elding stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Howard Linford hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Garry Gough's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sean Martin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 54th minute of play. William Nailor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Sean Martin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jack Mabbutt made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Keiran Fairbank sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Redcar City's Benji Turk got a free kick in the 63rd minute. In the 65th match minute, Redcar City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marlon Oliver to maneuver through the defense. Benji Turk's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Jack Mabbutt firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 68th minute, Redcar City's Dean Butters dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-2. If William Nailor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kingston United's Ian Elding got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marlon Oliver in the 74th minute of play forced Kingston United's goalkeeper Jack Mabbutt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kingston United's Jack Mabbutt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marlon Oliver in the 82nd minute of play. Jack Mabbutt didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Benji Turk went, in the 84th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. Kasey Leeson struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Sean Martin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kingston United. Kingston United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 93rd minute, when Dean Butters scored to the left of an out of position Jack Mabbutt, making the score, 1-4.
