An unexpectedly hard shot by Syd Pell in the 4th minute of play forced Great Ayton`'s goalkeeper Jez Truscott to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Damien Moody fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jez Truscott having to interfere. In the 14th minute Syd Pell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jez Truscott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 15 minutes into the match, Great Ayton`'s goal looked a bit too open when Syd Pell came free, but Jez Truscott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Tony Reynolds received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Edward Lloyd came out and tried to block the shot, but Tony Reynolds slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 21st minute. Edward Lloyd didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Robin Boyce went, in the 26th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. The supporters of Sutton in Ashfield booed when Great Ayton` was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rufus Rose didn't get a good kick on the ball. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jez Truscott, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Robin Boyce received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Edward Lloyd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edward Lloyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tony Reynolds in the 96th minute of play. The Great Ayton` players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
