Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Fitz Scholey started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. 7 minutes into the game, Fitz Scholey cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Stu Bayliff was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 15th minute, Fitz Scholey got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fitz Scholey got in the 18th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Stu Bayliff handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. Stew Clemence made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Freddy Higson sent off a good shot on target. In the 21st minute, Tristram Courtney made a precise shot to the right of Stu Bayliff. Romford's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fitz Scholey in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Stu Bayliff saved Romford from getting behind. Freddy Higsons short, quick shot in the 26thth minute got Stew Clemence to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After having played for 27 minutes, Fitz Scholey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bakewell United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fitz Scholey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fitz Scholey in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Stu Bayliff saved Romford from getting behind. Fitz Scholey struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Stu Bayliff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bakewell United. Ivor Ratcliffe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Freddy Higson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ivor Ratcliffe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Stu Bayliff took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tristram Courtney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The Romford players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Bakewell United were winning 0-2.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ivor Ratcliffe made a kick off. Franz Morgan hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. After having played for 55 minutes, Fitz Scholey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bakewell United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fitz Scholey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tristram Courtney's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Stu Bayliff read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. When Jim Roche fell near the penalty area in the 64th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Romford's protests and gave Jim Roche a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Bakewell United booed when Romford was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jim Roche didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Fitz Scholey took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Stu Bayliff to make any attempt to save it. Freddy Higson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Stew Clemence having to make a save. Freddy Higson struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Stew Clemence didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Romford. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fitz Scholey in the 75th minute of play forced Romford's goalkeeper Stu Bayliff to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stu Bayliff showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fitz Scholey, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. A collision led to Romford getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Tris Crouch hit a great ball. Bakewell United's Tristram Courtney got a good chance for a goal in the 87th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fitz Scholey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Freddy Higson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Romford's supporters rose to their feet, but Freddy Higson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Stew Clemence breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Bakewell United defense, Freddy Higson kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Stew Clemence. The Bakewell United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Stew Clemence should have stopped the shot. The Bakewell United supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Bakewell United would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
