Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Ronnie Longstaffe got the match started through his kick off. Mexborough United's Brendon Cusack proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 3rd minute of the match, managed to save Mexborough United from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ronnie Longstaffe in the 14th minute of play forced Buxton FC's goalkeeper Graham Brown to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Graham Brown stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ronnie Longstaffe's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. 32 minutes into the match, Mexborough United's goal looked a bit too open when Richard Digby came free, but Brendon Cusack reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Brendon Cusack made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Dave Ainsworth sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tommy Flynn in the 47th minute of play forced Buxton FC's goalkeeper Graham Brown to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Richard Digby to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Richard Digby shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brendon Cusack saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Richard Digby received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Brendon Cusack tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Mexborough United's Vinnie Courtney got a free kick in the 59th minute. Brendon Cusack showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dave Ainsworth, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Digby in the 66th minute of play forced Mexborough United's goalkeeper Brendon Cusack to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 70 minutes into the match, Buxton FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ronnie Longstaffe came free, but Graham Brown reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Ronnie Longstaffe kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Graham Brown. That made the score 0-1 in the 72 minute of play. In the 77th minute, Richard Digby got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dave Ainsworth recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 81 minutes into the match, Mexborough United's goal looked a bit too open when Richard Digby came free, but Brendon Cusack reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ronnie Longstaffe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Brendon Cusack made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dave Ainsworth in the 92nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Buxton FC's Nicholas Stride got a free kick in the 94th minute. Mexborough United's Luke Meechan shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 95th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Graham Brown but with some difficulty. The Buxton FC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Mexborough United's performance. The match ended with a win for Mexborough United.
