Gus Newby could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Marcus Vine made a huge save. In the 17th minute Travis Ashton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcus Vine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 40thth minute of the game Carl Singleton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ashwell City's Calvin Gulliver was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ashwell City's zone, Philip Collins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Calvin Gulliver came out of the goal and Philip Collins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Carl Singleton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Calvin Gulliver having to interfere. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Middlesbrough Town's Philip Collins got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 54 minutes into the match, Middlesbrough Town's Carl Singleton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Calvin Gulliver narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 55 minutes into the match, Travis Ashton notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Middlesbrough Town's Marcus Vine. Marcus Vine was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Travis Ashton couldn't finish the play. 78 minutes into the match, Middlesbrough Town's goal looked a bit too open when Travis Ashton came free, but Marcus Vine reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Calvin Gulliver showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carl Singleton, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Middlesbrough Town were furious when Rex Butterfield was red carded, 83 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 97th minute of the match Jamal Soares sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcus Vine skillfully saved the ball. In the 98th match minute, Middlesbrough Town was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kieran Butterfield to maneuver through the defense. Ashwell City's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
