The penalty shot was made by Caleb Brady, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Plaza Mayor's Lawrence Pearson. 0-1. After 13 played minutes Plaza Mayor got a freekick which was hit by Ash Tandy. After 15 minutes, Edward Parsons made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. Plaza Mayor's Lawrence Pearson tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Iain Garner fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tom Winship having to interfere. Lawrence Pearson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edward Parsons in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute Edward Parsons shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lawrence Pearson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 28 minutes, Vern Nightingale mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Plaza Mayor and the Stanley players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Edward Parsons managed to get in a good position for a shot. Stanley's supporters rose to their feet, but Edward Parsons was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lawrence Pearson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vern Nightingale received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Tom Winship tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 42nd minute Edward Parsons shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lawrence Pearson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Iain Garner made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Iain Garner managed to get in a good position for a shot. Plaza Mayor's supporters rose to their feet, but Iain Garner was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tom Winship breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bradley Fry got free with Lawrence Pearson in the 53rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With his leg Lawrence Pearson managed to avoid a goal in the 54thth minute, when Stanley's Carl Blain fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Lawrence Pearson made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Carl Blain sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Stanley booed when Plaza Mayor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicky Harrison didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lawrence Pearson acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 60th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Malcolm Nelson. In the 61st minute, Vern Nightingale got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 63rd minute Vern Wiseman suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Nicky Harrison fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Plaza Mayor's protests and gave Nicky Harrison a yellow card for diving instead. After 64 played minutes Plaza Mayor got a freekick which was hit by Nicky Harrison. If Vern Nightingale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Nicky Harrison came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Plaza Mayor fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nicky Harrison couldn't finish the play. If Vern Nightingale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 79 minutes, Vern Nightingale managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Plaza Mayor's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vern Nightingale was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Vern Nightingale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carl Blain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lawrence Pearson having to interfere. Vern Nightingale received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Tom Winship tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lawrence Pearson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. The Stanley supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Stanley would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
