In the 17thth minute of the game Harvey Commons who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hillhead's Basil Henderson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harvey Commons in the 21st minute of play forced Hillhead's goalkeeper Basil Henderson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 24 minutes, Harvey Preece made it 0-2 with a short kick to the right side. Hillhead's Basil Henderson tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in St Albans AFC's zone, Philip Flemming stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Charlie Bromley came out of the goal and Philip Flemming tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 31stth minute of the game Harvey Commons who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hillhead's Basil Henderson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a little luck, St Albans AFC's Charlie Bromley got control of the ball when Casey Dudgeon tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 35th minute, Casey Dudgeon got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 37 minutes into the match, St Albans AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Philip Flemming came free, but Charlie Bromley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in St Albans AFC's zone, Casey Dudgeon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Charlie Bromley came out of the goal and Casey Dudgeon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Casey Dudgeon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Charlie Bromley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play. If Harvey Commons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Charlie Bromley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Philip Flemming, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Harvey Commons could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Basil Henderson made a huge save. Harvey Commons fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Basil Henderson having to interfere. St Albans AFC's Harvey Commons got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Harvey Preece received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Basil Henderson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Harvey Preece took a quick shot and it went in 0-4 without a chance for Basil Henderson to make any attempt to save it. Gary Hunt kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Casey Dudgeon in the 86th minute of play forced St Albans AFC's goalkeeper Charlie Bromley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Philip Flemming had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The St Albans AFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing St Albans AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
