The supporters of Nailsea AFC booed when Gatwick was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zane Hargrave didn't get a good kick on the ball. Perry Toulson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bob Butcher having to interfere. 19 minutes into the game, Martin Rush was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gatwick's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nailsea AFC the free kick. After a rather tough play, Gatwick's Martin Rush got a free kick in the 19th minute. Bob Butcher took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Perry Toulson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Perry Toulson in the 30th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Bob Butcher prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 34 minutes into the match, Perry Toulson had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bob Butcher. Gatwick's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Perry Toulson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Silvester Stubbs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Ged Blain tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Silvester Stubbs in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ged Blain saved Nailsea AFC from getting behind. Ronan Banks struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Bob Butcher didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nailsea AFC.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Perry Toulson to make the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Ronan Banks managed to get in a good position for a shot.
