In the 13th minute, Crowborough's Robbie Seaward dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. If Terry England had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Frank Preston made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Abraham Cardwell sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Godalming AFC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Felix Dunn hit a great ball. When Robbie Seaward came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Crowborough fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robbie Seaward couldn't finish the play. Frank Preston took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Robbie Seaward, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Godalming AFC getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Felix Dunn hit a great ball. Jeff Goodwin charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jeff Goodwin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Godalming AFC booed when Crowborough was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Robbie Seaward made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Archie Stockdale during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After having played for 57 minutes, Allan Burley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Godalming AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Allan Burley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 65 minutes into the match, Terry England had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Orson Swanson. Robbie Seaward received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Frank Preston tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 72nd minute Robbie Seaward shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Preston saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
