Vic Morgan acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 6th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Stephen Longstaff. If Gwyn Monk had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 14 minutes, Jack Ackroyd mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Witham City and the southport fc players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Witham City getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Jack Ackroyd hit a great ball. Alistair Bland received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Vic Morgan came out and tried to block the shot, but Alistair Bland slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 18th minute. When southport fc's David Foggarty in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Witham City's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Foggarty in the 23rd minute of play forced Witham City's goalkeeper Tristan Crayon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Quentin Ellis came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the southport fc fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Quentin Ellis couldn't finish the play. Vic Morgan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alistair Bland's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. If Alistair Bland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Witham City's Gwyn Monk got a free kick in the 37th minute. When Alistair Bland came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Witham City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alistair Bland couldn't finish the play. 47 minutes into the game, Witham City's Gwyn Monk nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Vic Morgan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when David Foggarty stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Witham City's Tristan Crayon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Witham City from getting a goal against them. Rich Scorfield's late challenge caught a Witham City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rich Scorfield helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Witham City booed when southport fc was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rich Scorfield didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vic Morgan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alistair Bland's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. In the 61st minute the ball was on its way in behind southport fc's goalkeeper Vic Morgan, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Quentin Ellis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Tristan Crayon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Quentin Ellis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Witham City's Alistair Bland in the 70th minute got a chance for a shot 70th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Vic Morgan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alistair Bland in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vic Morgan saved southport fc from getting behind. After 83 minutes, Robbie Pringle mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Witham City and the southport fc players grew even worse after the yellow card. Quentin Ellis struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Tristan Crayon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for southport fc. 89 minutes into the match, southport fc's goal looked a bit too open when Gwyn Monk came free, but Vic Morgan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Gwyn Monk's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vic Morgan was relentless in the 96th minute of the game. Quentin Ellis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tristan Crayon having to interfere. Witham City's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
