Alfie Featherson kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. Ricky Mayfield was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 16th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. David Fleetwood made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Stu Woodcock in the 18th minute of play. Ashton-in-Makerfield's David Fleetwood played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Stu Woodcock in the 25th minute of play. In the 28thth minute of the game Felix Poynton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ashton-in-Makerfield's David Fleetwood was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Cheshunt booed when Ashton-in-Makerfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rod Shakespeare didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Richard Nailor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Noel Styles made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Niall Rawson sent off a good shot on target. Noel Styles made an important save on a dangerous shot by Niall Rawson in the 43rd minute. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Richard Nailor stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some careless play in the Ashton-in-Makerfield defense, Stu Woodcock kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of David Fleetwood. The Ashton-in-Makerfield fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that David Fleetwood should have stopped the shot. Noel Styles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Niall Rawson, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Garth Southgate's late challenge caught a Ashton-in-Makerfield's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Garth Southgate helped the player get up and apologised. After 61 played minutes Cheshunt got a freekick which was hit by Garth Southgate. After a rather tough play, Cheshunt's Charles Slater got a free kick in the 65th minute. Phil Kenna took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 73rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Noel Styles. Cheshunt's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Stu Woodcock had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of David Fleetwood. Ashton-in-Makerfield's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Stu Woodcock was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Richard Nailor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Niall Rawson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Noel Styles having to interfere. In the 84th minute, Stu Woodcock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Noel Styles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Niall Rawson in the 85th minute of the match. Cheshunt's Noel Styles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfie Featherson in the 89th minute of play. Lance Leach took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 90th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Noel Styles. Cheshunt's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Felix Poynton in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck David Fleetwood prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience held their breath when Ricky Mayfield in the 97th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the David Fleetwood's left hand side.
