The referee ignored Birmingham United's protests and gave Alastair Boatman a yellow card for diving instead. Rex Billing showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Neil Baldwin, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. Rex Billing breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Oswaldtwistle United's zone, Alex Airton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Adrian Blake came out of the goal and Alex Airton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Neil Baldwin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 31st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Eric Joy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 35th match minute, Birmingham United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Basil Woodhead to maneuver through the defense. After 36 played minutes, Oswaldtwistle United's Romeo Lawson shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rex Billing came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Oswaldtwistle United reached it. 39 minutes had been played when some careless play by Oswaldtwistle United's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Matty Rice was slow to take the kick. During this time Birmingham United's players had a chance to rest. When Vincent Howden fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alex Airton made a kick off. In the 52nd minute, Oswaldtwistle United's Syd Firth dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. 64 minutes into the match, Alastair Boatman notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Oswaldtwistle United's Adrian Blake. Adrian Blake was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 69 minutes into the game, Syd Firth was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Oswaldtwistle United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Birmingham United the free kick. After a rather tough play, Oswaldtwistle United's Syd Firth got a free kick in the 69th minute. Alex Airton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Oswaldtwistle United's Syd Firth got his second yellow card of the match in the 75th minute. The referee ordered Syd Firth off the ground. In the 75th match minute, Oswaldtwistle United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Syd Firth to maneuver through the defense. When Birmingham United's Alastair Boatman, in the 76th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Birmingham United. Adrian Blake came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Birmingham United's Alex Airton. But to his dismay, Alex Airton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Alastair Boatman struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Adrian Blake didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Birmingham United. Adrian Blake stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alex Airton's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Adrian Blake showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alastair Boatman, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. The Oswaldtwistle United players were the happier at the end of the match as they had prevented Birmingham United from taking control. The game ends in a draw.
