Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Verne Johnston took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 3rd minute, Syd Haper got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Syd Haper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 11 played minutes Westbury-sub-Mendip got a freekick which was hit by Daryl Reid. Edward Cousins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Harrington having to interfere. Marty Harrington didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Syd Haper went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Syd Haper received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Marty Harrington tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marty Harrington showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Cousins in the 26th minute of the match. In the 30th minute, Graeme Rocastle reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Marty Harrington. The goal made the score 3-0. Syd Haper sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edward Cousins in the 36th minute of play forced Westbury-sub-Mendip's goalkeeper Marty Harrington to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Verne Johnston came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Westbury-sub-Mendip fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Verne Johnston couldn't finish the play. Edward Cousins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Marty Harrington tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Edward Cousins made a kick off. Horsham's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Verne Johnston 53 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 3-1. After 58 minutes, Jeff Ellison mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Westbury-sub-Mendip and the Horsham players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Westbury-sub-Mendip's zone, Edward Cousins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marty Harrington came out of the goal and Edward Cousins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 62nd minute, Syd Haper got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 67th minute Verne Johnston shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brett Addison saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Edward Cousins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edward Cousins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Harrington having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Syd Haper in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Marty Harrington saved Westbury-sub-Mendip from getting behind. 89 minutes into the game, Kurt Johnston was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Westbury-sub-Mendip's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Horsham the free kick. After a rather tough play, Westbury-sub-Mendip's Kurt Johnston got a free kick in the 89th minute. Marty Harrington took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edward Cousins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Marty Harrington made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Syd Haper in the 94th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Horsham's Rich Townson got a free kick in the 96th minute. In the 97th minute, Byron Rawson sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Horsham's Brett Addison didn't even have to move.
