Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Verne Johnston took the kick off in the first half of the match. In the 5thth minute of the game Rob Woodier who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Westbury-sub-Mendip's Marty Harrington was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 9 minutes into the match, Rob Woodier had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Marty Harrington. Westbury-sub-Mendip's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rob Woodier was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Verne Johnston fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stewart Cook having to interfere. If Ted Hitchcock had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Stewart Cook managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when Westbury-sub-Mendip's Kurt Johnston fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Stewart Cook showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Verne Johnston, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. 22 minutes into the game, Verne Johnston cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Stewart Cook was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 27 played minutes Topsham got a freekick which was hit by Alastair Seaward. Westbury-sub-Mendip's Kurt Johnston got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ted Hitchcock fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Harrington having to interfere. The supporters of Topsham booed when Westbury-sub-Mendip was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andre Hird didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Westbury-sub-Mendip's zone, Ted Hitchcock stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marty Harrington came out of the goal and Ted Hitchcock tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rob Woodier recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The wind increased when Ted Hitchcock made the kick off in the second half. Rob Woodier had several of the Westbury-sub-Mendip's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 53 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-2 score and a disappointed Marty Harrington as he didn't even see the shot coming. Marty Harrington made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rob Woodier in the 60th minute. Luke Deaconsfield kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. The supporters of Topsham booed when Westbury-sub-Mendip was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeff Ellison didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rob Woodier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Marty Harrington tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 87 minutes, Rob Woodier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Topsham's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rob Woodier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Rob Woodier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rob Woodier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
