The supporters of Ware AFC booed when Wanlip City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rueben Farrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Martyn Commons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Wanlip City's zone, Orson Berry stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iain Steed came out of the goal and Orson Berry tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Rueben Farrell was shown his second yellow card after 9 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 10th match minute, Wanlip City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rueben Farrell to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute, Jon Norton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jon Norton took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Rex Adams. Rex Adams dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Iain Steed took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Orson Berry, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Martyn Commons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jon Norton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rex Adams having to interfere. Iain Steed showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Orson Berry in the 45th minute of the match. When Jon Norton came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Wanlip City fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jon Norton couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Nath Greenfield fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wanlip City's protests and gave Nath Greenfield a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Wanlip City's Nath Greenfield got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Rex Adams took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jon Norton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 56th minute, Dylon Gulliver hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Travis Constantine had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rex Adams stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jon Norton's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. Jon Norton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jon Norton in the 71st minute of play forced Ware AFC's goalkeeper Rex Adams to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rex Adams made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jon Norton in the 77th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Clive Nancy during the 79th minute. Wanlip City's supporters rose to their feet, but Jon Norton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rex Adams breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
