In the 10th minute Franz Gamble shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Jones saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The attack was good, but when Franz Gamble in the 12th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 15thth minute of the game Franz Gamble who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Manchester United's Jim Jones was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Manchester United booed when Ripon FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Archie Barratt didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Franz Gamble had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Manchester United getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Tommy Spacey hit a great ball. With an all-out effort, Manchester United's Lenny Downes threw himself towards the right post 33 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Austen Portway, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. A collision led to Ripon FC getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Frank Gavan hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Ripon FC's Marcus Leyburn got a free kick in the 36th minute. 41 minutes into the match, Ripon FC's goal looked a bit too open when Austen Portway came free, but Lenny Downes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 44th minute, Phil Ashton sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Manchester United's Jim Jones didn't even have to move. Jim Jones made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Franz Gamble in the 46th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Tom Sugden made the kick off in the second half. Albert Myers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Franz Gamble managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ripon FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Franz Gamble was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jim Jones breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Austen Portway hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. Lenny Downes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Austen Portway in the 62nd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Ripon FC defense, Austen Portway kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lenny Downes. The Ripon FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lenny Downes should have stopped the shot. If Albert Myers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Luke Weston fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Manchester United's protests and gave Luke Weston a yellow card for diving instead. Luke Weston hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Kasey Bridge kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. If Albert Myers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Austen Portway fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lenny Downes having to interfere. Franz Gamble sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
