The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Henry Kenna showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rory Paine, who was totally free with the ball in the 2nd minute. Daryl Kitchen made an important save on a dangerous shot by Keith Crittenden in the 5th minute. Daryl Kitchen made a fantastic save in the 10th minute, when Pat Kershaw sent off a good shot on target. Gav Firth hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Daryl Kitchen acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 13th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Bill North. 18 minutes into the game, Jack Lumb was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barcelona's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Calverley the free kick. After 18 played minutes Barcelona got a freekick which was hit by Jack Lumb. Conal Power hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. When Rory Paine came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Calverley fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rory Paine couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Ty Vassell managed to get in a good position for a shot. Calverley's supporters rose to their feet, but Ty Vassell was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Henry Kenna breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pat Kershaws short, quick shot in the 35thth minute got Daryl Kitchen to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Alf Lynam charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alf Lynam the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 43rd match minute, Barcelona was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alf Lynam to maneuver through the defense. Ty Vassell struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Henry Kenna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Calverley. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ty Vassell was the one to do the kick off. Henry Kenna made a fantastic save in the 51st minute, when Rory Paine sent off a good shot on target. When Ty Vassell got free in front of the goal in the 58th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Henry Kenna was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Pat Kershaw received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 63rd minute. Daryl Kitchen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pat Kershaw might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Daryl Kitchen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pat Kershaw ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 72nd minute of the match, Ty Vassell tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Henry Kenna saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Pat Kershaw recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ty Vassell struck a weak shot in the 78th minute. Henry Kenna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Calverley. Daryl Kitchen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pat Kershaw, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 92nd minute, Pat Kershaw managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barcelona's supporters rose to their feet, but Pat Kershaw was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Daryl Kitchen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Henry Kenna didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 95th minute, which inside left pole to 0-1. The Barcelona supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Calverley's performance. The match ended with a win for Calverley.
