After a rather tough play, Dartford FC's Al Rashleigh got a free kick in the 15th minute. If Lee Seagrave had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 21 minutes, Lee Seagrave made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Dartford FC's Ritchie Tomkins tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 27th minute Rod Jowsey shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niall Marenghi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Dale Fleetham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 42 played minutes Dartford FC got a freekick which was hit by Reggie Bentley. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

A collision led to Dartford FC getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Theo Leach hit a great ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Lee Seagrave kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ritchie Tomkins. That made the score 0-2 in the 65 minute of play. After 71 played minutes Dartford FC got a freekick which was hit by Rio Moody. 74 minutes had been played when some careless play by Dartford FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Dale Fletcher was slow to take the kick. During this time Formby's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Formby's Dale Fletcher to fire away a dangerous shot which Ritchie Tomkins despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball.
