When Andrew Cookson came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Ilkley City fans jumped to their feet. Ilkley City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andrew Cookson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Patrick Lagdon hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Rugeley's Neil Woodhouse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Andrew Cookson in the 42nd minute of play. If Ozzy Blackwell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Rugeley's Jay Abbotts got a free kick in the 48th minute. In the 89th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ilkley City's goalkeeper Rodd York, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Alan Munday hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Ilkley City eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
