But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luke Knightley couldn't finish the play. Syd Lansdell hit a great freekick 8 minutes into the match. Scott Wright showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luke Knightley, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Syd Lansdell charged in rather forcefully in the 20th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Syd Lansdell the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Syd Lansdell hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Jay Sinclair hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Luke Knightley hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Jim Nancy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jim Rowell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Frazer Dryden in the 30th minute of the match. In the 35th match minute, Luton Town FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brad King to maneuver through the defense. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Frazer Dryden was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Luton Town FC's goal looked a bit too open when Frazer Dryden came free, but Jim Rowell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 57 minutes into the match, Putney's Robert Smith sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim Rowell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Frazer Dryden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Jim Rowell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Martyn Kemp fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Putney's protests and gave Martyn Kemp a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Luton Town FC booed when Putney was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Syd Lansdell didn't get a good kick on the ball. 73 minutes into the match, Putney's goal looked a bit too open when Luke Knightley came free, but Scott Wright reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 77th minute, Putney's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Luke Knightley fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Frazer Dryden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frazer Dryden in the 87th minute of play forced Luton Town FC's goalkeeper Jim Rowell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 95 minutes into the match, Putney's Frazer Dryden sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim Rowell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Frazer Dryden had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew the final whistle, Putney could leave the field as winners, despite Luton Town FC having more of the ball for most of the match.
