Al Fuller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andre Street having to interfere. In the 42nd minute, Rod Pollard made a precise shot to the right of Andre Street. Gainsborough's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Andre Street stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Al Fuller's shot from short distance in the 46th minute. Al Fuller received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Andre Street tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kirk Prior stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Rhys Lynam notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of OJ Rovers's Ralf Harkness. Ralf Harkness was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
