Bridgnorth FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chelmsford United the free kick. Carlton Garforth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Liam Hopkinson in the 5th minute of play. In the 7th minute Ronnie Delamore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denis Whitehead saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlton Garforth didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Conan Jones went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. When Nath Pope fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chelmsford United's protests and gave Nath Pope a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th match minute, Chelmsford United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nath Pope to maneuver through the defense. When Ronnie Delamore came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Bridgnorth FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronnie Delamore couldn't finish the play. Liam Hopkinson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Carlton Garforth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 33 played minutes, Chelmsford United's Dennis Liddle shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Carlton Garforth came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Chelmsford United reached it. The supporters of Bridgnorth FC booed when Chelmsford United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nath Pope didn't get a good kick on the ball. Conan Jones might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Carlton Garforth. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Conan Jones ran back to his position shaking his head. If Conan Jones had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Conan Jones fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlton Garforth having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Conan Jones stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Ronnie Delamore sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. In the 69th minute, Nigel Tabb got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ronnie Delamore recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Conan Jones in the 84th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Carlton Garforth prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ronnie Delamore in the 88th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Denis Whitehead saved Chelmsford United from getting behind. If Ronnie Delamore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
