Wakefield's supporters rose to their feet, but Dale Crichton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ash Whiteley breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dylan Gardener got free with Ash Whiteley in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ash Whiteley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dale Crichton, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Ash Whiteley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dale Crichton in the 32nd minute of the match. Wakefield's Dylan Gardener got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dale Crichton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Crispin Hall had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Trev Potts might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wally Truscott. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Trev Potts ran back to his position shaking his head. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dale Crichton stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Wakefield's Wally Truscott played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trev Potts in the 54th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Caterham Valley United's zone, Dylan Gardener stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ash Whiteley came out of the goal and Dylan Gardener tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 58 minutes into the game, Wakefield's Dale Crichton nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ash Whiteley made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Crispin Hall's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wally Truscott read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. In the 80th minute of the match Caterham Valley United got a corner. Wakefield's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Julian Lynch ran over to the corner to take the kick. Louis Homes tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Wally Truscott. An unnecessary self made goal, 1-1 in the 80th minute. Caterham Valley United's Crispin Hall got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Trev Potts kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wally Truscott. That made the score 1-2 in the 89 minute of play. 94 minutes into the match, Wakefield's goal looked a bit too open when Trev Potts came free, but Wally Truscott reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Stefan Musgrove fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wakefield's protests and gave Stefan Musgrove a yellow card for diving instead. Wally Truscott took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Trev Potts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Caterham Valley United had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
