Marcus Budden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 8th minute, Shaun Kennedy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 9th minute, Kristian Dunlop got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Quentin Picker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Quentin Picker succeeded in the game's 14th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-1. Quentin Picker might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Darryl Joy. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Quentin Picker ran back to his position shaking his head. Alwinton's Dylan Aspinall got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Marcus Budden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th minute, Johnnie Hilditch ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Brian Parkinson was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Brendon McGrath's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brian Parkinson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 46th minute of play.

Brian Parkinson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Alwinton. Darryl Joy showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Quentin Picker, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. 62 minutes into the match, Alwinton's goal looked a bit too open when Quentin Picker came free, but Darryl Joy reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Brendon McGrath struck a weak shot in the 66th minute. Brian Parkinson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Alwinton. If Brendon McGrath had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brian Parkinson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcus Budden, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Quentin Picker was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 77th minute. Openshaw AFC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Quentin Picker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darryl Joy having to interfere. If Quentin Picker had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 90 minutes into the match, Huey Ely dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Darryl Joy, 1-2. Fraser Allison charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fraser Allison the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 93rd match minute, Alwinton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fraser Allison to maneuver through the defense. Brendon McGrath sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 99th minute Marcus Budden shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brian Parkinson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Openshaw AFC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
