Through an outstanding action, after 9 minutes, Jude Blueman successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. George Roche scored 1-0 in the 14th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jude Blueman, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 17 minutes, Frank Brazier mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Manchester City and the Chapel en le frith players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Manchester City's Frank Brazier got a free kick in the 17th minute. If Rupert Carragher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. George Roche could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Jude Blueman made a huge save. Barrie Wishart sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Barrie Wishart had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 27th minute, Bob Barat hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Pollock made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Seth Flintoff in the 30th minute of play. Seth Flintoff fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darryl Pollock having to interfere. In the 35thth minute of the game Seth Flintoff who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chapel en le frith's Darryl Pollock was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Seth Flintoff received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Darryl Pollock tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 40 played minutes Manchester City got a freekick which was hit by Frank Brazier. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Seth Flintoff in the 48th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Darryl Pollock saved Chapel en le frith from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Nicholas Canning's late challenge caught a Manchester City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nicholas Canning helped the player get up and apologised. In the 56th minute, Nicholas Canning hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Barrie Wishart in the 59th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Darryl Pollock saved Chapel en le frith from getting behind. Chapel en le frith's George Roche got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Seth Potterton hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Chapel en le frith's Nicholas Canning couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 65th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Manchester City. After having played for 67 minutes, Rupert Carragher managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chapel en le frith's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rupert Carragher was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If George Roche had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 80th minute, Bill Tonkin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 83 played minutes Manchester City got a freekick which was hit by Frank Brazier. Jude Blueman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rupert Carragher in the 86th minute of the match. Ivor Downes kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. Bob Connell kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Chapel en le frith's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Barrie Wishart 96 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-2. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Manchester City eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
