With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benjamin Younger in the 7th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ryan Beasley saved Westbury-sub-Mendip from getting behind. In the 8th minute, Leigh Clark hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Colin Newton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benjamin Younger blasted a shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ryan Beasley having to make a save. When Leigh Clark fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Westbury-sub-Mendip's protests and gave Leigh Clark a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Westbury-sub-Mendip getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Leigh Clark hit a great ball. 26 minutes into the game, Ronnie Rutherford was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ingatestone's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Westbury-sub-Mendip the free kick. After 29 played minutes, Westbury-sub-Mendip's Dean Ashby shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Philip Holmes came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Westbury-sub-Mendip reached it. Ronnie Rutherford kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. Colin Newton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Philip Holmes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Colin Newton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Philip Holmes having to interfere. In the 42nd minute, Gerry Fawell left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Westbury-sub-Mendip fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Les Knott in the 46th minute of play forced Westbury-sub-Mendip's goalkeeper Ryan Beasley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Ingatestone booed when Westbury-sub-Mendip was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leigh Clark didn't get a good kick on the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Colin Newton made a kick off. Ronnie Rutherford was shown his second yellow card after 53 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. If Les Knott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gerry Fawell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Philip Holmes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Ingatestone's zone, Gerry Fawell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Philip Holmes came out of the goal and Gerry Fawell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 71 minutes into the match, Westbury-sub-Mendip's Gerry Fawell sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Philip Holmes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Colin Newton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Philip Holmes having to interfere. 78 minutes into the match, Westbury-sub-Mendip's goalkeeper Ryan Beasley had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Les Knott. In the 83rdth minute of the game Colin Newton who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ingatestone's Philip Holmes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 88 minutes into the game, Les Knott was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ingatestone's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Westbury-sub-Mendip the free kick. In the 89th match minute, Ingatestone was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Les Knott to maneuver through the defense. Gerry Fawell got in the 90th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Philip Holmes handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. Benjamin Younger hit a great freekick 91 minutes into the match. Westbury-sub-Mendip's Gerry Fawell got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 97th minute, Gerry Fawell got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Westbury-sub-Mendip fans cheered their team off the field, for while Ingatestone had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
