An unexpectedly hard shot by Marlon Cooper in the 9th minute of play forced Shepton Mallet's goalkeeper Lawrence Gill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 16 minutes into the match, Shepton Mallet's Vincent Hardcastle sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hugh Houghton narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Vincent Hardcastle's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hugh Houghton was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. Hugh Houghton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Deon Dingle, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Shepton Mallet's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Shawn Atherton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Shawn Atherton got free with Hugh Houghton in the 74th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hugh Houghton made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Shawn Atherton sent off a good shot on target. Shawn Atherton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute.
