Chesney Illingworth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tristram Carey, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Honiton's Chesney Illingworth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tristram Carey in the 23rd minute of play. Vernon Hurst fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chesney Illingworth having to interfere. Marty Rawlings received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Shaun Cheeseman tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Stuart Lynch recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Stuart Lynch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jason Beverley hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

In the 51st minute of the game, Kris Mann landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Dale Beavan's late challenge caught a Milton City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dale Beavan helped the player get up and apologised. Dale Beavan kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. Chesney Illingworth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vernon Hurst in the 53rd minute of play. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Milton City's goalkeeper Shaun Cheeseman, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vernon Hurst in the 58th minute of play forced Honiton's goalkeeper Chesney Illingworth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Martyn Drury had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vernon Hurst struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Chesney Illingworth didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Milton City. If Vernon Hurst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marty Rawlings recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Stuart Lynch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 86th minute of the match Anthony McGrath shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Shaun Cheeseman showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Ty Kelly managed to get in a good position for a shot. Honiton's supporters rose to their feet, but Ty Kelly was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Shaun Cheeseman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 94 minutes into the match, Honiton's goal looked a bit too open when Vernon Hurst came free, but Chesney Illingworth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
