Through an outstanding action, after 8 minutes, Dale Hough successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpected shot in the 16th minute by Kevin Powell got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Trev Lydiate during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Appleshaw FC's Trev Lydiate got a free kick in the 20th minute. Kevin Powell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Hough having to interfere. Kevin Powell's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 24thth minute, Dale Hough skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Ross Sheringham charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ross Sheringham the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Appleshaw FC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Ross Sheringham hit a great ball. The supporters of Poynton FC booed when Appleshaw FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthew Potter didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 40 minutes, Matthew Potter mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Appleshaw FC and the Poynton FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 40th minute, Matthew Potter hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A long shot from Alec Blacksmith in the 41st minute of play was well struck, but Dale Hough made a really good save at the right post. In the 43rd match minute, Poynton FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kris Lansdell to maneuver through the defense. Jeremy Groves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trev Lydiate in the 44th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Poynton FC's Chaz Cambridge got a free kick in the 45th minute. Trev Lydiate struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Jeremy Groves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Appleshaw FC. Appleshaw FC's Warren Golding got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Trev Lydiate made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donny Beaver in the 55th minute of play forced Appleshaw FC's goalkeeper Dale Hough to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 55 minutes into the game, one of Poynton FC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 57 minutes, Appleshaw FC's Charles Dalton got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Jeremy Groves. Warren Golding recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Chaz Cambridge charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Chaz Cambridge the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Charles Dalton was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 69th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. A collision led to Poynton FC getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Ken Scholey hit a great ball. Trev Lydiate fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeremy Groves having to interfere. Jeremy Groves had great luck who in the 86thth minute grab hold of the ball when Trev Lydiate from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. If Warren Golding had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Poynton FC's zone, Trev Lydiate stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeremy Groves came out of the goal and Trev Lydiate tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Trev Lydiate fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeremy Groves having to interfere. When Trev Lydiate came up free with the goalie in the 99th minute, the Appleshaw FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Trev Lydiate couldn't finish the play. Appleshaw FC played a much better game than Poynton FC and deserved their victory. The Poynton FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
