After 6 played minutes, Poynton FC's David Lynch shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Blair Upson came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Poynton FC reached it. The supporters of Poynton FC booed when Oadby was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wayne Sandell didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Kevin Powell came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Poynton FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kevin Powell couldn't finish the play. Donny Beaver sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 21 minutes into the match, Oadby's goal looked a bit too open when Donny Beaver came free, but Blair Upson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Blair Upson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donny Beaver, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 25th match minute, Poynton FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chaz Cambridge to maneuver through the defense. If Donny Beaver had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 36th minute, Poynton FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Johnathon Bridgewater fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Oadby getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Wayne Sandell hit a great ball. In the 41st match minute, Oadby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Victor Dunne to maneuver through the defense. Blair Upson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kevin Powell in the 44th minute of the match. Johnathon Bridgewater sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Victor Dunne stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Victor Dunne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremy Groves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 55th minute, Poynton FC's Donny Beaver ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Blair Upson. Blair Upson yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Poynton FC's Donny Beaver got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Kevin Powell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 68th minute Victor Dunne shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeremy Groves saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Oadby's Blair Upson got control of the ball when Kevin Powell tried to sneak it across the goal line. Blair Upson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donny Beaver, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Johnathon Bridgewater put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Jeremy Groves. Jeremy Groves showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Johnathon Bridgewater, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Jeremy Groves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Victor Dunne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 87 played minutes Oadby got a freekick which was hit by Wayne Sandell. If Victor Dunne had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Victor Dunne fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeremy Groves having to interfere.
