The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Brandon Thorne was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 19 minutes into the match. Denzil Mulford shot the penalty kick right outside the post. Joe Marriott could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Rutger Holm made a huge save. In the 37th minute Les Dexter shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steven Haugue saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 44th minute Denzil Mulford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rutger Holm saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Les Dexter stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Rutger Holm showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Blair Scholes, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. The supporters of Skelmersdale booed when FC Tunarii was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Max Corcoran didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 57th minute, Denzil Mulford ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rutger Holm was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Rutger Holm took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Blair Scholes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Blair Scholes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Drew Llyod kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. 67 minutes into the game, Les Dexter was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Tunarii's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Skelmersdale the free kick. In the 67th minute, Les Dexter hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ash Gale took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 68th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Rutger Holm. FC Tunarii's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 70 minutes into the game, Joe Marriott cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Rutger Holm was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Denzil Mulford in the 75th minute of play forced FC Tunarii's goalkeeper Rutger Holm to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Drew Llyod in the 78th minute of play forced FC Tunarii's goalkeeper Rutger Holm to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Les Dexter struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Steven Haugue didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Tunarii. When Brian Kear came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the FC Tunarii fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brian Kear couldn't finish the play. FC Tunarii's Rutger Holm played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Blair Scholes in the 96th minute of play. Skelmersdale's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
